UK’s Top Information Technology Associations To Scrutinise Green IT And Cloud Computing At IT Decisions Show
23rd and 24th June at the Pavilion, NEC, Birmingham
IT Decisions, a new major event designed to help businesses and government make important IT investment decisions, has today confirmed keynote addresses from two of the UK’s leading technology industry associations, National Computing Centre (NCC) and BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT. These keynotes will provide delegates with unbiased advice on implementing cloud or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) strategies, as well as how to leverage mobile working for greener computing.
IT Decisions is free to attend and will take place on 23rd and 24th June at the Pavilion, NEC, Birmingham.
Cloud computing was recently named by Datamonitor as one of 2010’s Trends To Watch and the NCC’s Head of Programmes and Projects, Dr Andy Hopkirk, will review the sustainable benefits and the associated challenges of adopting a cloud computing strategy. He will use the results from a recent round table discussion entitled The Future of Software Services Delivery, to provide IT Decisions delegates with valuable analysis, insight and observations from NCC members.
Joining Dr Hopkirk on day one of the show will be the BCS security evangelist/blogger, Andrea Simmons, who is also the Founder and Director of Simmons Professional Services, with her keynote Cloud Computing – Panacea or Parasol? Simmons will identify and analyse some of the most common challenges associated with implementing a cloud computing strategy, with a focus on security and governance.
Simmons comments, “When planning a cloud computing approach it is important to decide what’s right for your company. The keynote session will scrutinise some of the experiences so far in dealing with cloud initiatives and focus on what needs to be the mainstay of our management approach; the principles of good governance. This includes legal governance and compliance with legislative requirements, identification of the information assets being used in the service provision and selection of safeguards.”
On day two, member of the BCS strategic security forum and Director of Interlocutor Services Limited, John Doody, will continue the cloud computing discussion started by Simmons, using his many years experience providing strategic advice to a number of major UK and US IT security companies.
Also on the second day, the Director of Advisory Services at NCC, Michael Dean will look at how remote and mobile working practices can help organisations and individuals reduce environmental impact, whilst improving performance. Dean will draw on his experience in developing and delivering NCC’s portfolio of information, advice, guidance and consultancy services to the end-user community.
Commenting on IT Decisions, Dean says, “2010 will be unlike any other year when it comes to IT decision-making. The repercussions of the credit crunch and paradigm shifts in technology will drive fundamental changes in the way IT is deployed. IT Decisions 2010 is a timely opportunity for hard pressed IT decision-makers to get to grips with the key issues in an informative environment, with ample opportunities to listen to experts and share experiences, opinions and network with peers.”
